A loan of $825 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet and sorghum.

Wesakulila Group's story

Isaac is a member of Wesakulila Group in the Bungoma South District of Kenya. He is pictured with 12 other One Acre Fund farmers (9 women and 3 men) and is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for the cultivation of half an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum. Isaac is a new One Acre Fund farmer and joined the fund in order to grow enough food for his family.

Isaac described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and invest in a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Isaac’s group members will take input loans for half an acre each. Thus in total, this group will receive input loans for the cultivation of 6.5 acres of land.
