Namono A Group's story

Austine is a member of Namono A Group in Bungoma South District. He is pictured with twelve One Acre Fund farmers, six women and six men. Austine is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Austine first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Austine joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use the increased profits to send his children to school.

Austine described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and save for the future. Austine’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for six acres of maize, millet and sorghum.
