Mercy is aged thirty one She is a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where she lives with her husband and two children. One child has started school. She has been in farming for the past seven years producing milk, maize and beans which she sells at the local market in her area.
She is requesting a 62,400 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow that will provide her with more milk to sell. This will give her extra income which she will use to uplift her living standards and pay for her children’s schooling. She aspires to have bought another four dairy cows and become the leading milk supplier in her area in the next five years.
Diseases and fluctuation of prices are her major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
