A loan of $2,025 helped a member to buy supplies and tables.

Las Gardenias Group's story

This is the communal bank "Las Gardenias." The group has 6 responsible members who are in their 10th loan cycle. Most of the members are neighbors from the area. At the age of 53, Elea has already accomplished some of her goals, such as building part of her home and keeping her food business running. She now has a restaurant where she serves lunch and dinner. She started this business with the idea of providing for her 2 children, as she was the only breadwinner in the home. Elea's main wish is to set up a restaurant in her own home and continue to support her youngest daughter, who is still a dependent, in her education.

Elea is requesting a loan to buy supplies and tables, so that she can provide better service to her customers. This group is grateful for the support being provided by the Kiva lenders.

Elea is seen in the rear of the photo, second from the left. In the photograph 2 passive members are seen; they will return to the group in the next loan cycle. One of these is Ernestina, who carries a polka dot purse, and the other is Ana, who is in the same row but is at the end on the left side.

In this group: Yuli Esther, Sara Milagros, Edgardo Humberto, Elea, Matilde Aurelia, Elizabeth
