A loan of $1,175 helped to buy decorations and tables for her ice cream shop.

Mely's story

Mely is a single woman with a big spirit for self-improvement and two big motivations in life, her two children, Estefano, 12, and Lucero, 11.

As the fruit of her labor, she's proud of having finished building her house of solid materials. Motivated by the desire to improve her quality of life, she started working in an ice-cream shop where she learned the trade of making ice cream, the consumption of which is huge in town because it's a tropical area.

She says she likes her job a lot because the preparation technique is enjoyable and she feels she has a vocation for sweets and pastries. She has been in the field for almost 10 years, and up to now she has planned to go out on her own and open her own ice-cream making and soda-fountain business in a space she recently managed to rent.

To achieve her goal, she's applying to her financial institution to have the corresponding support. In the future she hopes to make her business profitable and continue with opening other places in various parts of the region, which she considers difficult but not impossible. As she says, with work and effort it's possible to move mountains.

Currently she wants to have 3,000 nuevos soles [PEN] to supplement her capital and buy decorations, tables, and other things so she can open her own ice cream shop.
