CUSCO, Peru / Personal Housing Expenses

A loan of $1,175 helped to buy construction materials for a roof.

Medalid's story

Medalid, 25, lives a married life with Rogelio, 28, along with her little Junior, age 7. They live in a rented house built of solid materials. Previously they supported her mother, who made a living selling food in the market in their town.

To contribute actively to the growth of the family economy she decided to start her own business, a juice bar-soda fountain, thanks to an aunt who rents space to her. She has worked in the business for five years, thanks to which she has managed to help pay the expenses she needs to get her family ahead.

After many years of effort, she and Rogelio managed to acquire a plot of land where they started building a brick house. They want to complete the first step toward their dream by building the roof.

Her long-term goals are to finish the second floor of her house and later make a living renting rooms for extended periods, as well as to use the first floor of her future house as a space for her juice bar.

Currently she needs 3,000 nuevos soles [PEN] to supplement her capital and continue with the roof of her future house, thus achieving her dream of having her own house.
