A loan of $300 helped a member to buy more hair extensions and hair dryers for her salon to attract more clients,.

Susan Faith's Group's story

Faith's group is comprised of three hard-working women. Faith is 16 years old and lives in the town of Bunghokho in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is single and has two children who are both currently in school. For the past year, Faith has been working hard to manage her salon, which does hair dressing.

To help expand her business, Faith has requested a loan of 250,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more hair extensions and hair dryers for her salon to attract more clients, and will help Faith to generate greater profits and pay her children's school fees. Faith hopes that in the future she will be able to build a permanent house for her children.

Faith is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro-finance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
