Ndengelwa Group's story

Margaret is a member of the Ndengelwa Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 10 One Acre Fund farmers, 9 women and 1 man. Margaret is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. Margaret first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2009 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Margaret joined One Acre Fund in order to access and grow enough food for her family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Margaret was only able to harvest 1.5 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after participating with the One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 6 bags per ½ acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to save for the future and perhaps buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Margaret's group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
