Muyayi North A Group's story

Mildred is a member of Muyayi North A Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured here, one of ten One Acre Fund farmers, seven women and three men. Mildred is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation.

Mildred first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2010 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Mildred was only able to harvest 2 ½ bags of maize per ½ acre but in the Long Rains 2012 season, she was able to harvest seven bags per ½ acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to save for the future and to send her children to school. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Mildred's group will receive five acres worth of inputs on credit.
