Ricardo's story

Ricardo is 58 years old and has been a butcher for 5 years. His business has been passed down from generation to generation and his whole family works in the business. His main clients are stores to whom he sells all types of meat, such as ground meat, liver, ribs, etc. He starts his day at 4 in the morning and works until noon, Monday through Saturday. His main provider is the most important slaughterhouse in the region where he buys on credit as well as cash and then turns around and sells his products for cash. He is currently applying for a Kiva loan, his first through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With his loan he will buy larger quantities of beef so that he can keep building his client base and eventually earn more so he can help provide quality education for his grandchildren.
