Luis Carlos's story

Luis Carlos is fifty years old and has a business in the city market, where he sells beef, pork, offal, and cold meats. His experience dates back to sixteen years ago, when he learned everything about meats from his mother; she had a similar business and Luis Carlos used to help her. Because of this, he bought his own business in the market when he had the opportunity to do so; he knew that this type of business yields good profits. Today, he feels very satisfied and wants to continue improving his business while maintaining the site with the best conditions and good prices. He also wants to sell more meats, since he has the goal of earning more income. He wants to do this so that his children have the best options for school. Currently, he is applying for a Kiva loan; this is his first financing with the communal bank Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. He will use the loan money to buy beef, pork, and cold meats in greater quantities in order to obtain the best prices. He also needs the loan because the carnival festivals (alluding to the celebration of Barranquilla) are approaching and he should be prepared, since the sales increase in this season both during and after the festivals. The meats are the ingredients needed in all of the dishes, especially in the three-phase stew (a soup with three types meat), which is the meal most consumed by his clients in order to sustain themselves or to get ride of a hangover or other discomfort that can happen after consuming alcoholic beverages.
