A loan of $400 helped to buy more coffee to increase sales.

Winnie's story

Winnie is 23 years old and lives in the town of Kyotera in the Masaka region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who currently attends school. For the past two years, Winnie has been working hard to manage her coffee business, selling coffee seeds.

To help expand her business, Winnie has requested a loan of 1,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more coffee to increase sales, and will help Winnie to generate greater profits and provide for the basic needs of her family. Winnie hopes that in the future she will be able to become the best coffee producer in town.

Winnie is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
