Mariama (who is pictured second from left) is the featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs. Mariama, age 36, is married to a businessman and the couple has four children – one in primary school and three in secondary schools. Mariama has been a businesswoman for many years now. She sells market food – palm oil (the most popular cooking oil), margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), pepper, salt, etc. This is the first loan that Mariama and her group members have applied for from SMT/Kiva lenders. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions.
