Uaminifu C Group's story

Lucy is pictured on the right with her hand raised amongst her Uaminifu C Group members. The ten of them, six women and four men, are farmers in Bungoma South District. Farming inputs consisting of the necessary materials to plant half an acre of maize, millet and sorghum will be delivered to her on credit . Lucy first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Lucy joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Lucy was only able to harvest four bags of maize per one half acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest ten bags per one half acre. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and perhaps invest in another business. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive half an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Lucy’s group will receive five acres worth of inputs on credit.
