Mateka Group's story

Eileen is a member of Mateka Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 11 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 4 men. Eileen is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Eileen’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Last year, Eileen harvested 6 bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land. She is excited to improve her harvest as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and perhaps invest in another business. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Eileen’s group will receive 5.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
