Sikata Group's story

Sikata Group is a group of 11 farmers in Bungoma South District, represented by Emily. The group has eight women and three men. Emily is on the right of the photo with her hand raised.

Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant 0.5 acres of maize, millet, and sorghum. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Emily’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to grow enough food for the family and to access the best input prices.

Emily described her harvest last year as good, but hopes she can have an even better one as a One Acre Fund farmer. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and to repair her home. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Sikata Group members will take input loans of 0.5 acres each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5.5 acres of land.
