Jikaze Group's story

Jikaze is a group of 15 farmers in Bungoma South District and is represented by Dorise. The group has 11 women and four men. Dorise is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. Dorise first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Dorice joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to access the best input prices.

Dorise described her harvest as poor last year, but believes she can have a better one this year. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and repair her home. Dorise’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 7.5 acres of maize, millet and sorghum.
