Sikata Group's story

Christine is a member of Sikata Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund farmers, eight women and four men. Christine is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Christine’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to use increased profits to send her children to school and to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Last year, Christine harvested eight bags of maize on one acre of land. She is excited to improve her harvest as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and perhaps invest in another business. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Christine’s group members will take input loans of ½ an acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
