A loan of $775 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Yuya Group's story

Dishon’s group, called Yuya Group, has 12 farmers and is located in Bungoma South District. Dishon is pictured on the right of Yuya Group, with his hand raised. Dishon is pictured amongst the seven men and five women of his group.

He will receive input loans capable of planting 0.5 acres with sorghum, millet, and maize. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Dishon’s first season with One Acre Fund. He joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and to use increased profits to send his children to school.

Dishon thought his harvest last year was poor. He hopes that, as a One Acre Fund farmer, he can have an excellent harvest. He plans on using future profits from the harvest to send his children to school, repair his home, and save for the future.

For the 2013 Long Rains season, Yuya Group members will take input loans of 0.5 acres each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on six acres of land.
