Tumaini Group's story

Tumaini is a group of 14 farmers in Bungoma South District represented by Robert. The group has 11 women and 3 men. Robert is on the right of the photo with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. Robert is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited about the 2013 Long Rains season. He joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices, grow enough food for the family, and use increased profits to send his children to school.

Robert managed to harvest 5.5 bags of maize on 1 acre of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, he hopes to harvest even more. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school, invest in buying a new cow, and perhaps invest in another business.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Robert’s group will receive 7 acres worth of inputs on credit.
