Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,700 helped to buy a wooden stand and supplies (snacks and sweets).

Marleny's story

Marleny, who is 35, has earned the affection and admiration of many people in her district on account of her passion and responsibility. She is a single mother with two minor children who provide her main motivation to succeed. "It does not matter what hardships and setbacks I have had to contend with because, when my children smile, I know that all my efforts have been worthwhile". With these words, Marleny admits the difficulties she has had to face on her daily journey, but she still has plenty of reasons to keep fighting. Due to the shortage of employment opportunities, she decided to start selling mobile phone minutes as a way of earning a living. She now wants to extend her portfolio of services and so she is requesting a loan which she will invest in the purchase of a wooden stand and supplies which will enable her to generate additional income for the well-being of her family.
