A loan of $500 helped to purchase supplies such as leather and imitation leather, as well supplies for making cleaning products.

Clara's story

31-year-old Clara lives in the town of Cartagena de Indias with her husband and her little 10-year-old son. She makes shoes and also makes cleaning products. She started these businesses by taking a course at the National Training Service (SENA), where she learned the technical skills. After taking her lessons, she decided to put them into practice in order to get an income of her own. Her dream is to own a large store where she can sell all the products she makes. However, her biggest challenge is having enough working capital to accomplish this purpose. That's the reason why she requests a Kiva loan, which she plans to use to begin increasing production so that she can improve her sales. That way she'll gradually achieve her goal of success, and alongside her husband she'll increasingly improve her family's well-being. With her Kiva loan she'll purchase supplies such as leather and imitation leather, as well as supplies for making cleaning products, and she'll buy them in bulk. She'll sell them at competitive prices, because she'll be able to get discounts from her suppliers for buying in bulk and paying by cash.
