A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet and sorghum.

Siangwe B Group's story

Rose is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. Rose first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Rose joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Rose was only able to harvest two bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 12 bags per ½ acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to buy a cow and send her children to school.

Rose is a member of Siangwe B Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with fourteen One Acre Fund farmers: eleven women and three men. Rose is standing on the right with her hand raised. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Rose’s group members will take out input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on seven acres of land.
