Siangwe A Group's story

Selestine is a member of Siangwe A Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund (OAF) farmers, nine other women and three men. She is standing on the right with her hand raised.

Selestine is receiving an input loan for a half acre of maize and sorghum cultivation. She first enrolled with OAF during the 2009 long rains and is now preparing to be an OAF farmer during the 2013 long rains season. She joined OAF to access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining OAF, Selestine was only able to harvest four bags of maize per half acre. After joining, during the long rains of 2012, she was able to harvest eight bags per half acre!

Selestine plans to use profits from the harvest to save for the future and perhaps invest in another business. Members of her group will each receive input loans for a half acre during the 2013 long rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 6.5 acres of maize and sorghum.
