Siangwe E Group's story

Carolyne is a member of Siangwe E Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 11 One Acre Fund farmers, 9 women and 2 men. Carolyne is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. Carolyne first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Carolyne joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for her family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Carolyne was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 7 bags per ½ acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to save for the future and perhaps invest in another business. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Carolyne’s group will receive 5.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
