Siaka A Group's story

Mabel is a member of Siaka A Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund farmers, 9 women and 3 men. Mabel is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. Mabel first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2008 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Mabel joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for her family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Mabel was only able to harvest 3.3 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 12 bags per ½ acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to save for the future and repay her One Acre Fund loan next season. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Mabel's group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
