A loan of $400 helped to introduce cochineal into his crops.

Leonidas's story

Leónidas, 48, lives in the city of Nazca with his wife and children who he loves and are his main reason for living. He’s a very kind, hardworking, enthusiastic man who focuses all his efforts into moving his family forward. Sadly, due to the lack of economic resources, Leónidas was unable to study a professional career but he would have liked to do so very much. He likes listening to music in his free time and on occasion his wife cooks a delicious “Seco de Res” to pamper him since it’s his favorite dish.

On his own initiative and with much effort and dedication, Leónidas works in agriculture. He has a small parcel where he grows cactus apples. He works every day starting very early in the morning and works for six hours. He feels good doing his work and thinks he does well because of his experience.

Leónidas is very grateful to Kiva lenders because thanks to the help they’ve provided he will be able to pay the costs of infesting his crops with cochineal. Leónidas expects to have a good harvest and increase the cochineal production for future sale. He will thus continue working and striving to get ahead and reach his dream of enlarging his land.
