A loan of $1,425 helped to purchase a refrigerator, an industrial stove and kitchen help.

Misael Antonio's story

Misael is 36 years old and is the owner of a restaurant and fast food stall in the town of Soledad, where he lives with his family. Eight years ago, he noticed that there was no place to purchase prepared food in his neighborhood; so he started to entertain the possibility of starting his own food business. And today, this is the activity that is his and his family's main source of income. He offers lunch and dinner, stuffed arepas (corn loaves) and other fast food, which he sells from 8 am to midnight.
He buys in bulk from wholesalers and delis, which allows him to get frequent discounts. This will be the first time he will receive a loan from the Fundacion Maria Santo Domingo and he plans to make it a success, as this will be a Kiva loan. With the loan, he will purchase a refrigerator, an industrial stove and kitchen help, as well as supplies to prepare his dishes - such as salsas, vegetables, food and refreshments. He is planning on modernizing his amenities, so he can be more organized and offer his clients more convenience. He hopes this will allow him to decrease work time and give him a little more free time. He hopes he can decrease expenses, which should enable him to give his clients better prices and thus allow him to become more competitive.
