Mansurjon is planning to repair his home, which is in need of work, but does not have enough funds to do so, since everything he earns at the factory is spent on the family's living expenses. Mansurjon dreams of raising his children in best living conditions and tries to do everything to turn these plans into reality. He will use this loan to purchase building materials and begin repairing the roof of his house. Then, as he gradually saves more money, he'll repair the rest of the house step-by-step. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
