A loan of $750 helped to obtain capital to invest in her tea-farming business.

Jovans's story

Jovans is a tea farmer who lives in the village of Rwekitooma in Ruhumuro. She is widowed and has 12 children, eight of whom are enrolled in school. She also cares for four dependents whose parents are unknown. She works on her tea plantation for six hours a day, six days per week. She also trades in green tea leaves. She sells her produce directly to factories.

Jovans started her business in 1994 and initiated the endeavor purposely to help her support her family. She reports that the business has very little capital and that this loan will allow her the chance to expand and improve her business. She faces the challenges of hail storms, persistent drought, and a poor transport network.

She will use her expected profits from this loan to pay the school fees for a few of her children.

Jovans is a hard-working woman and hopes to expand the business so as to earn as much as possible to support her family.
