A loan of $650 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Ematola Group's story

Ematola is a group of 10 farmers in Bungoma South District represented by Hassan. The group has 5 women and 5 men. Hassan is on the right of the photo with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Hassan’s first season with One Acre Fund. He joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and use increased profits to send his children to school.

Hassan managed to harvest 7 bags of maize on 1 acre of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, he hopes to harvest even more! He plans on using future profits from the harvest to send his children to school and to repair his home. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Hassan’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
