A loan of $1,250 helped a member to buy house building materials.

Nathaniel Tamba's Group's story

These hardworking and dedicated teachers are from the town of Waterloo, about 26 miles from Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, to request a loan of 5,300,000 SLL in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, their school’s bursar will deduct their repayments out of their salaries and repay SMT on their behalf.

Nathaniel is the featured leader of this team. The 59-year-old is a native of Bumbia. He is married to a teacher and the couple has 2 children. Nathaniel has served in the teaching profession for 30 years. Nathaniel has requested this loan in order to complete the house building processes he began in 2012. Previous SMT loans have helped Nathaniel to pay college fees for his children and now, he is using these loans to build his family a house.
