Joseph I.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from the small town of Waterloo, near Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. These teachers have come to SMT to request a loan of 19,400,000 Leones for the entire group. They will use the loan funds to meet their immediate financial challenges, and at the end of each month they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries.

Joseph is the featured leader of this group. The 51-year-old is a native of Makeni city. He is married to a teacher, and the couple has eight children, who are attending schools. Joseph has been a school teacher for 26 years. He has requested this loan in order to pay school and college fees for his children.
