In this Group: Nzera, Ronald, Winfred, Godfrey, Jackline, Isaya, Benadito, Zaidah, Henry, Aureriya, Gaudensia, Jennifer, Deus, Milton, Doreka
Zaidah (pictured with her hand raised) is a member of this group. She is a farmer, primarily raising and harvesting maize and beans. However, Zaidah is challenged by the uneven and changing weather and the fact that she has limited capital to invest in agriculture, as well as the poor transport network to the markets. In addition to farming, she operates a clinic in her village which she started to boost the income of the family. She is a single mother with three children, all of whom attend school. She has five dependents, including her elderly mother.

Zaidah is requesting a loan in the amount of UGX 500,000 to add into her agricultural efforts this season so that she can realize a good return from her harvest at the end of the season. This will put her in position to meet the educational costs of her children and to supply their other basic needs.

Her dream is eventually to have a permanent residential house and to ensure her children's education through higher institutions of learning.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. Uniquely, UGAFODE focuses its efforts on agricultural areas in Uganda that are over 50 km from their branches, providing loans to both groups and individual borrowers. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
