Sango Group's story

Margaret's group has 10 farmers and is located in Bungoma South District. Margaret is pictured on the right of Sango Group with her hand raised. Margaret is pictured amongst the 4 men and 6 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of helping her plant ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize.

Margaret first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Margaret joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use increased profits to send her children to school.

Margaret reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 8 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 11 bags per ½ acre!

She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to save for the future and invest in a new cow. Margaret’s group members will each receive input loans for ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 5 acres of maize, millet, and sorghum.
