Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Herbert's story

Herbert is a 52 year old man who is happily married to Oliver. They have a family of their own eight children and four dependents who he took over from his sister. The sister died in a motorcycle accident. To sustain the big family, they have to work hard and as such are involved in many income-generating activities.

Besides their retail shop, they do cattle farming, goat rearing and banana farming. Their efforts in farming have been rewarded and the farm has enabled them to pay school fees for their children as well as meet their other needs. They are requesting a loan of UGX 3,000,000 to increase stock in their retail shop and the balance will be used to pay school fees for their children.

The photograph shows Herbert and his wife(Oliver).
