Irene's story

Irene is 50 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mubende region of Uganda. She is widowed with four children, two of whom are currently in school. For the past year, Irene has been working hard to manage her Agro shop where she sells poultry feed and fertilizers.

Irene is requesting a 2,000,000 UGX loan from BRAC Uganda to buy more agro-chemicals and poultry feed to expand her business. Her loan will help her generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to able to support her family.

Irene is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Irene who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
