A loan of $1,600 helped to buy perfumes, creams, and cosmetics for her Avon business and chicken feed and medicine for her chicken business.

Orfelia Del Carmen's story

In the city of Tosagua the communal bank Amistad meets twice a month. This place is known to be very dynamic where most people work in agriculture and with livestock as it is an area with a lot of vegetation.

Orfelia lives here. She is 62 years old and has a common-law relationship from which she has six adult children. Her daughter lives at home. Her husband works at an eating establishment.

Orfelia is a housewife who in order to earn her own income and thus be able to help her husband with the household expenses sells Avon (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and accessories for women). She sells from door to door. She works every day. She also has at home a little chicken farm and gets up to 100 chickens each season with which she gets a little extra if she delivers from the house. She has been doing her sales for more than 8 years and with her farm much longer.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, and cosmetics, and feed and medicine for the chickens. She has been with the communal bank more than 10 years and she likes it because of the support given through the loans.

Her dreams are to get ahead in life and in business.
