Subila Group's story

Catherine’s group has 10 farmers and is located in Bungoma South District. Catherine is pictured on the right of Subila Group with her hand raised. Catherine is pictured amongst the 3 men and 7 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum and maize. Catherine joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2011, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Catherine joined One Acre Fund so that she could rest assured of reliable input delivery and grow enough food for the family.

Catherine reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 2 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 8 bags per 1/2 acre! She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to start a poultry farm and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Catherine’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
