A loan of $650 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize and sorghum.

Munyali A Group's story

Stella is a member of Munyali A Group in Bungoma South District. She is pictured with 10 One Acre Fund farmers, 4 women and 6 men. Stella is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize and sorghum cultivation. Stella is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seeds and fertilizer as well as to grow enough food for the family.

Stella described her harvest last year as poor. She hopes that as a One Acre Fund farmer she is able to join the ranks of One Acre Fund farmers that have doubled their harvest in their first year of the program. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and invest in livestock (buy a cow). For the 2013 Long Rains season, Stella’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
