Koeurn is a local farmer who grows rice as the main income source for her family. She is a 30-year-old mother with three children, one attending school and the others too young for school. The rest of her family is living in Moung Russey district of Battambang province. Her business, which she has been engaged in for 10 years, earns her about 33,000 KHR per day. For her, the main business challenge is the lack of working capital to support her rice farm. Therefore, she is seeking a new loan from Kiva partner VisionFund to overcome her challenge. She repaid her first loan already and feels empowered that she can promote a higher standard living for her family, especially her children. In this second loan with VisionFund, she is seeking 1,600,000 KHR to pay the reaping fee on her three hectare farm and to buy five sacks of fertilizer to reserve for the upcoming planting season. She hopes to gain more crop output and sell at a high price so as she can improve her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
