A loan of $1,000 helped to buy four pigs, feed and medicine, and to prepare the land for growing corn or squash.

Patricia Lisseth's story

Patricia is 22 years old. She is married and has two girls who are five and four years old. Her husband has worked in a cheese factory for more than three years, while she takes care of the household chores and in addition, she has been raising pigs for five years. She recognizes that she did not like to take care of the animals before, but her husband started giving her more and more responsibilities; she now says that she loves this job, since it is a good way to earn money for her family and to pay for a loan she took to build their house.

She is requesting a loan at Fundación Campo to buy four pigs, feed and medicine and also to prepare 7,000 square meters of land to grow either pipían [a type of squash] or corn. She has currently two pigs that are three months old. She will sell them and keep the ones she will buy with the money from the loan, which will result in good income for her family. The crops will be for the family’s own consumption.

Her project is to pay for her daughters’ studies and build one more room in her house, now that they are growing.
