Florence's story

Florence is a single mother of five children and two of her children go to school. She doesn’t take care of additional family members. She has had a food stall business for 10 years and has applied for a loan of 300,000 Uganda shillings from MCDT-SACCO to buy more boxes of tomatoes, onions, clusters of bananas and eggplants. She doesn’t have any other income-generating activity. She works from her home seven days out of every week and sells on a retail basis only. Her major business challenges include thieves and defaulters. She is aspiring to become a wholesaler, to see her business grow big and to build her own house. She resides in a rented house and the family has access to electricity but not to piped water. Her monthly expenses includes school fees and rent.
