Angela Ramona's story

The “30 de Agosto” communal bank meets in the Picoaza parish of the city of Portoviejo, a place known as being a very commercial zone, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo festivals, and for the happiness of its people.

Angela lives here. She is 51 years old, is in a common law marriage and has four adult children. One of her daughters still lives at home, and also four granddaughters who attend school. Her husband is a merchant.

Angela has a business where she sells roast chickens. She rents a location in downtown Picoaza and works there every day in the evenings and nights which is when she has the most customers. She also sells tripe soup, which her customers enjoy, drinks, juices, and soft drinks. Her daughter helps her and she has been doing this for ten years and this business has allowed her to come out ahead.

She will use the money from this loan to buy soft drinks, juices, chickens, and ingredients she needs to prepare her food. She has been with the communal bank since the beginning and she likes it because the group is very united and trusting. Her dream is to have her own location because a good part of her earnings goes to pay rent.
