A loan of $1,600 helped to buy clothing.

Carmen Karina's story

The “30 de Agosto” communal bank meets in the Picoaza parish of the city of Portoviejo, a place known for being a very commercial zone, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo festivals, and for its happy people.

Carmen lives here. She is 34 years old, is in a common law marriage and has two children, ages 7 and 3. The older attends school. Her husband is a policeman.

Carmen likes to value herself and earn her own income for her expenses and in this way provide the best for her children. She has a place in her home where she sells paper goods, all types of clothing and shoes and also provides internet service. She works every day and besides selling from her place also visits her customers either to try to sell something new or to collect since she also sells on credit and collects every two weeks. She’s been doing this for five years and things are going well for her.

She will use the money from this loan to buy more merchandise such as pants, blouses, shirts, and clothing for children.

She has been a member of the bank for two years and she like it because of the quick loans.

Her dream is to continue growing her business.
