A loan of $600 helped to buy compost.

Lidia's story

Lidia is 55 years old and is a very hardworking woman. She lives with her husband, Jorge and they have seven young children. They care for them together in the home they inherited three years ago and they recently bought the one next door. The certainty of her look reflects how hardworking and dedicated she is. Despite her age she wants to continue planting, “I really like being in the fields,” she says. She is very capable and rises very early every morning to care for her crops. She raises potatoes, corn, and barley, which are her main source of income. She says that she sells every harvest in the main Hucancayo market, where she is known and has many years’ experience in this type of crop. Like a good farmer, she also has animals including cattle, donkeys, and pigs that help her when she most needs it. She uses the small donkey she has as a pack animal because her home is very far away. She sells the rest of the animals, so for this reason she promises to be on time with her payments. She will use the money from this loan to buy compost to feed her seedlings, since this is the growing and maturing season.
