Assetou's story

Assetou is 38 years old, married, and has seven children. She lives with her children at her husband's home in the Sido Sonincoura area of Ségou (the fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).
Having ended her studies at the 7th basic year (in the Malian education system) to get married, Assetou began dyeing and selling damask and headscarves with effigies of the names of saints in Arabic with her mother, who was very well-known in this field. After several years of training at her mother's side, Assetou continued by herself in this business after her mother's death. The strength of her sales is due to her creative genius; she is able to not only to write the text of the Koran in calligraphy on the headscarves but also to add people's photos.
With the goal of expanding her business to meet her clientele's demands, she turned to Soro Yiriwaso and is on her first individual loan.
She intends to use this loan to buy eight sets of light damask. She gets her supplies in Bamako and makes her sales in cash to a clientele composed mainly of women. She foresees realizing a monthly profit of 90,000 FCFA, which will allow her to take care of the household expenses and make her business more durable. Her ambition is to open a ready-to-wear clothing shop.
