Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $175 helped to buy more charcoal for her business.

Vivian's story

Vivian is 37 years old, single and lives in Kakata Town. It is the capital city of Margibi County and the highest producing rubber plantation in Liberia. She has three children between the ages of 2 and 12 that are in school and live at home. She stopped her education at 9th grade.

For the past seven years she has been selling charcoal from a table in the market. She focuses on charcoal because the consumption of charcoal in Liberia is very high. She established the business with a loan from her mother. She enjoys the independence her income gives her. She is requesting a loan to buy more charcoal for her business. Her plans are to build a shop and a house for her children.
