Josephat is single, 26 years old, and has one child. He operates a produce business dealing in the buying and selling of peanuts, coffee and beans, which he started four years back as a source of income. He had dropped out school due to lack of tuition fees.

Josephat wants a loan of UGX 1,000,000(one million shillings) to buy more coffee, maize and peanuts to boost his cereals business so that he can have good returns. He hopes to use the proceeds from the business to buy a motorcycle for transport in the business as well as constructing a residential house.

His major challenge is weather. The heavy rains make it very difficult for him to transport his goods. He also suffers when the market prices of the agricultural products fluctuate alot .

More information about this loan

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. Uniquely, UGAFODE focuses its efforts on agricultural areas in Uganda that are over 50 km from their branches, providing loans to both groups and individual borrowers. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
