A loan of $375 helped a member to purchase more stock of food such as raw matooke to sell.

Oliver's Group's story

Oliver's group includes four hard-working women. Oliver is 21 years old and lives in the town of Nansana in the Kampala west region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with one of them currently in school.

For the past two years, Oliver has been working hard to manage her kiosk , which sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Oliver has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more stock of food such as raw matooke (green plantain) to sell. It will help Oliver to generate greater profits and improve her stock. Oliver hopes that in the future she will be able to have a well equipped kiosk.

Oliver is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
